I picked these flowers (peony and hydrangea)  from my garden, and placed them in sunlight.

I have to admit, I struggled with this piece.  I started with a brush, but after much frustration, I turned to my trusty palette knife.  In the end, I am happy with the values, and the glow on the hydrangea on the rigfht.  And the colors, love the colors.  In fact, the more I look at it....the happier I get!

So the moral of this story is, don't give up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my dear granddaughter, Courtney!!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Small Flower Painting, "Country Style" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil on Panel

When I am in Florida, I go to the store, purchase flowers, bring them home and try to arrange them perfectly in a beautiful vase.

When I am in North Carolina, I go to the garden, or just pick some wildflowers, plop them in a small milk bottle or jelly jar.......that's what I call "Country Style".

I tried to keep that laid back feel in the painting too, using both a brush and a palette knife.

Then, I brought it back to Florida, to remind me to relax and chill now and then.

Thanks for reading my blog today.  I hope you get to "chill" a little too.

LILY, 6X8, OIL, SOLD

I don't paint a lot of flowers so I thought I would give one a try.  This is from a photo I took a couple of years ago in North Carolina.  I found this beautiful plant full of blooms in a neighbor's yard.  The plant had a least 10 blooms on it and stood waist high.

Floral Still Life, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on Canvas panel

I painted this some time ago, and it immediately disappeared into the depths of my studio closet.  I sometimes accuse my husband of getting up in the middle of the night and hiding everything in my studio.

My goal on this painting (and all of my paintings) is to keep it fresh.  I think I achieved that .  I love a sweet, simple painting.

Hope you have some flowers in your life today.  They always make me happy.

Art Hits the Road!!

Something a little different today....no paintings to view.

I have been busy for several months, working on a very large commission.  I am so relieved to finally finish the project.  Here it is, all crated up and ready to go.

My husband is happy to have his garage back.

Down the driveway and into the big truck.

Who knew you could move around 200 pounds with one hand!  I need one of those pallet lifts!

I loved working on this project as it was  quite a stretch for me.  Everything is very hush,  hush and I am not allowed to tell you more at this point.

However, I can say I am planning a trip to New Orleans soon!

Thank you for viewing my blog today.

Small Floral Still Life, "Tulips and Sunflower" 8x6"

It may not feel like it where you live, but winter is on it's last legs and soon spring flowers will be bursting out of the ground.  Tulips are one of those flowers that mean spring to me.

$90 + 6.50

Living in Florida, most of the tulips I see these days are in the florist shop.  Some years, I get lucky, and visit North Carolina when they are blooming.

These came from the grocery store.  Lately, I have been coming home with more flowers than food which tends to upset my husband.   I tell him flowers are edible, but he is not impressed with my knowledge.

Tulips are so elegant.  They remind me of ballet dancers with their graceful poses.  Like most things so beautiful, they don't last as long as I would like.
