Pear Still Life, "Pears with Back Lighting" 6x8" Oil, SOLD

It has been cloudy and kind of dreary here for the past week or two.  I prefer to work from images and I count on this time of the year to give me the natural light I use.

SOLD

This is not the bright light I usually have streaming in this window.  These pears look a little on the moody side.

I have another version of these pears coming up soon.

I find one of most biggest difficulties in painting small is constantly trying to find new and interesting compositions.  Changing from bright to soft light has helped.  How do you daily painters handle this issue?

Art Sale, Daily Painting, Bottle Painting, "Vintage Blue Bottle" by Carol Schiff

If you follow my blog, you know that every Wednesday I put a painting on sale....just for you readers and the readers of my facebook page.  Today, I am listing one on my favorites.

purchase here
100 minus 20 rebate
This is one of my vintage bottles and I wanted to paint with a palette knife in a "chunky" manner.  Some days I just have to do these things!  Anyway, I really enjoyed painting it and I really like the outcome.

Don't ask me why, I don't know, but I decided to use it as my sale painting this week.

If you purchase it at the link under the image, you will be charged $99.95, plus shipping and I will REBATE YOU $20.00 on your credit card or PayPal account.  When you order, you MUST WRITE ON THE ORDER " SALE PAINTING".  That is how I know to send you the rebate!

This offer expires June 1, 2014 at 12:01 a.m. PDT.

Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Flower Painting, Floral Still Life "Hydrangea and Goldenrod" 8x6" SOLD

Another of my "chunky" floral still life.  The idea on these is to keep detail to a minimum with color, brushstrokes and shape catching you eye.

SOLD

I quickly sketched in very basic shapes, not being fussy but trying to capture enough of the flower shape to be recognizable.  I massed in dark under colors and then worked a little with local color.  Of course, I  pumped it up.

I worked with big strokes and lots of paint.

Thank you for viewing my art today.

Pear and Plum Still Life, Palette Knife Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8" Oil on canvas panel, sold

Have not done a still life, or a palette knife painting for a while, so this one was in my comfort zone.

SOLD

I naturally tend to lean towards cool colors, so I had fun working all my favorite color relationships.

This scene is a repaint, from years ago.  I couldn't find the original photograph, but I did have a photo of the first painting, so I used that as a guide.  The first painting was done with a brush, which is why I decided to mix it up a little, by using a palette knife this time around.

Hope you enjoy it!

Small Floral Still Life, "African Violet", 6x8" Oil SOLD

Now that spring is here, flowers are starting to bloom everywhere.

SOLD

The beauty of African Violets is that with a little sunlight, they will bloom all year round.

Of course, this one doesn't even need sunlight!

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Interior Still Life, White Chair by Carol Schiff, 8x10.75" Still Life

I have always admired artists who do interior paintings.  Finally, I found a composition in my home that seemed to work.  My pot of tulips on the window sill were casting long shadows on the white chair next to it.

Small Floral Still Life, "Rose of Sharon with Back Lighting" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil SOLD

A small floral still life of blooms from my garden in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains.  I set them on the window sill with natural light streaming in from behind.

SOLD

These pinks, blues, purples and greens are really my favorite colors.  I think they give a very soothing feeling to this small floral still life.
